IT skills, without a doubt. HAndwriting skills are becoming less and less important, while IT skills are becoming more and more important. Bearing in mind just how difficult it is for someone who has dyspraxia to write by hand, it's a no-brainer!

Great idea to encourage independence. Using wet wipes and practicing where to wipe when not actually doing it can help. Thanks for your ideas

There has not been any research linking the two, but some children with dyspraxia may have some difficulties as well in this area.

You could use a raised ruler from WH Smiths- or an architects ruler which as a rubber grip underneath
Try Staples for this.

Start off finding something your child likes to do to build her self esteem. This gives her something to talk to others about.Could you slowly learn a martial art?
Building her confidence is the key thing for every child.

My child has suffered from being teased and 'put down' because of her difficulties. She now wets her bed and regularly refuses to go to school. She won't join clubs/attend activities unless myself, her father or sibling can be there with her as she does not trust other children.

Attitudes seem to be that this kind of thing is to be expected and that she must just learn to cope with it.

Have found another school that actively promotes/supports personal development and responsibility in its pupils, so we are taking her there to see if she likes it.

Hi, I am currently going through testing with my 10 year old son, and wondered if anyone could point me in the direction of a ruler with a handle that does not appear babyish. I have bought the alligator one but he won't use it at school.
Thanks

All the above mentioned strategies helped my son but they become highly problematic in secondary school. Trying to get from class to class with books, bags, tilt boards, wedge cushions etc is physically and organisationally too much as well as immediately making them 'different'. There is way more writng too.
My son uses a laptop (alphasmart in Primary) and if e-books were available that would be even better. He learned to touch type at 11 and will be taking his exams using a keyboard. In my experience it allows him freedom in so many ways.
Additionally there is voice recognition technology etc, brilliant if dyslexia is also an issue.
In my (non expert) opinion then, the earlier the better for keyboard skills!
