Reading with your child

Feeling comfortable

Making sure you and your childĀ are comfortable and in a quiet environment so their attention won’t be drawn to other things such as the TV.

Ideas to Help

Make story time as interactive as possible using props to involve your child such as puppets.

If your child is fidgety give him/her a “fiddle toy”. This could be a soft ball or a small toy.

Get your child to join in by turning the pages.

Encourage your child to talk about what they can see on the page and what they think might happen next in the story.

Encourage your child to repeat key words – even if it is “now we turn the page” after the end of every page.
