Reinforcing reading and spelling
In order for a child to learn to read and write they need to understand the letter sounds and recognise and remember the shapes. Some ways of reinforcing this can be through play and having some fun:
Make letter shapes in dough or in pastry – you can use ready to go pastry and cut out the shapes or roll them out into “snakes” first and then make the child’s name with him or her.
Encourage the child to write out the letters using chunky chalk outside (where it can be hosed down after) or on a carpet square.
Write letters in shaving foam in the bath.
